Why Content Marketing is Needed for SEO

Search engine optimisation (or SEO) just isn't what it used to be thanks to the Google Panda updates. for those of you who follow SEO news, this update (which concetrated on web page quality) sent big and small link builders running for the hills. However, I was really celebrating the changes that made Google, for the first time, forget about number of links and concentrate on the quality of the writing and other content contained on a website.

Link Building Fails!
Unlike many website that have been building SPAM links for years, I was not really affected by the changes, unless you count increased visitors. This is because I don't build links. Yes, it sounds crazy after reading so many so called experts rant on about links. Instead, I concentrate on posting my own written, original material in one place on the internet (that means no 'article spinning', another fancy word for spam). This means that the information I have written and gathered is unique, relevant and not just written to gain a precious link.

Google Can Read!
Now that Google has learned to read content marketing is more important than ever and the fact is, it is also cheaper than hiring an SEO company. Certainly, most companies will say they do some form of content marketing, but what they really do is just post things online to add links. Real content marketing is all about engagement, and that means answering customer questions as well as providing an educational platform on your website - usually in the form of a blog.

Time Poor Business
Most small businesses are time poor. This can pose a problem when trying to create unique and interesting content online. However, it is much cheaper to pay a quality writer to create this content for you, rather than waste money on spam links that will end up having your website punished by Google. This can free up some of your marketing budget to spend on direct advertising online rather than just building lots and lots of links.

Hope this has been helpful as you start to market your small business better online!
